Development

Project Overview

As part of Instructional Development & Production (R541) class, we had to develop and produce an actual training package.  As the client from the Kelly Business School liked what we had designed for him previously and was looking forward to receiving some concrete product, we decided to re-engage him as our client for this development and production project.

For this project, our team planned to develop an interactive self-directed online training package to guide learners (newly hired lecturers at Kelley Business School) on how to put together a course syllabus that is aligned to learning outcomes using Adobe Captivate.  Noting that our target learners are busy lecturers with heavy workloads, we reckoned that this mode of delivery would suit the learners well given their hectic schedules.

To develop the training package, our team first worked on producing the storyboard, referencing the design document that we had produced previously.  The aim was to firstly explain to learners the importance of articulating effective and measurable learning outcomes.  This would then be followed by a practice session whereby learners would be able to try at drafting some learning outcomes for the course they teach.  The drafts would then be checked against criteria that were suggested earlier in the training package.  To ensure that there was closed loop feedback, the learners would have the option to submit their draft learning outcomes to the resident Instructional Consultant (our project client) for his comments.  Lastly, the learner would continue with the training through the sharing of the "CLEARS" mnemonic as a guide to putting together the various parts of a course syllabus.  After the storyboard was done, we had to write the script and arrange for filming to be done.  Lastly, the video footage had to be edited and put together using Adobe Captivate to add interactivity, as a means to enhance the learners' experience.

The video example on the Skills Page highlights one of the sections within this training package.  The final product is published and hosted at Kelley's Instructional Consulting website.  Click on the extract of the Instructional Consulting website (Top Left) to access the site and the online training video.  In addition, the slide show to the left showcases the practice session that learners watching the training package will get to.  Click on the slides (Left) to access the live practice session.
